Today will start and finish with the most representatives red wines of the region, keeping the whites for tomorrow. After breakfast and before some drinking we will pay a visit to the best "public relation" of the region and its wines: Francois Rabelais (1494-1553). "La maison des Vins" of the Veron (region close to Chinon) will welcome us for a presentation and tasting of Chinon appellation followed by a visit to the welcoming family de Bonnaventure, working the same land since the 13 century. Today, the Chateau de Coulaine produces wines following biodynamic techniques. In the afternoon, a guide/historian will help us to resuscitate Alienor d'Aquitaine in the beautiful 11 century Abbey of Fontevraud. Twice Queen (France then England) and mother of 2 kings, her life is a fascinating novel. Bottles of Saumur Champigny will help us to finish the day at the Domaine des Roches Neuves for a presentation of these superb wines. Dinner on your own in Chinon. Night at the Hotel Diderot. B - L |
